Nothing more exciting than to walk the large cross throughout a city’s diverse fields of souls and witness the move of God’s Spirit upon hearts.
Since 1973 I’ve had the pleasure of working for the Lord as a street evangelist. Some one million men, women and children later, it still blesses my heart every time I get the opportunity to shake someone’s hand, talk with them about Jesus, and pray for their needs.
I truly do not know the number, but thousands of men, women and children have accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord as the message of the cross is presented and shared and as the Holy Spirit convinces, convicts and converts.
As I entered Riverside County and the city of Riverside itself, I felt the Spirit of resurrection and life in Christ Jesus rising up inside me. Couldn’t wait to park the “go-ye-mobile” and walk the cross throughout this beautiful city as well.
University Avenue was my exit, which would give me easy access to downtown and City Hall. After checking into my motel room, I took the large cross from off my truck, prayed for a few minutes in the motel’s parking lot, then headed north on University. Response was immediate. Glory Hallelujah, look what God is doing all across the land of California! After a successful cross-walk mission in Pasadena, I traveled some fifty miles east to San Bernardino, a beautiful city that, on this day, was drenched by a pouring rain. But the Cross Walker loves to walk in the rain. Parking about one block from City Hall and the main downtown area, I unstrapped the large cross from the cab and bed of my “go-ye-mobile.” Already people began to gawk and look upon the scene of an evangelist getting ready to tote a large cross throughout their streets.
Love the rain. As I headed toward the main street of downtown San Bernardino, city workers asked me questions about what I was doing. I gladly shared with them my mission: to present the cross of Jesus Christ as God’s plus sign to the men, women and children living in San Bernardino; to proclaim the name above all names, the name of Jesus Christ, to all people; and to pray in the name of Jesus Christ for their city. My mission: to kick-start a great revival in this city, so men, women and children would come to the Lord Jesus Christ and accept Him as their Lord and Savior. Read the rest of this entry »

The world-renown Rose Bowl, home to some very great and exciting college football rivalries.
What a way to start a new week of cross-walking. Beautiful day in Pasadena, home to the nationally-known Rose Bowl. Arriving downtown, I found a great place to park, just a block away from City Hall. The people were already awake, even though it was around 8:00. Already getting all kinds of smiles and car horns blowing as I made my way to the massive City Hall building. The Spirit of God was in this place, that’s for sure.
As I walked the cross up to the building and hoisted it upright, people were already making positive comments about the large cross. To my pleasant surprise, a city worker came up and asked if he could pray for the city as well. Read the rest of this entry »
Orange, California. After walking the cross in Tustin (home to Trinity Broadcasting Network) I traveled a few miles to this beautiful and serene city. Parking the “go-ye-mobile” a couple blocks from the downtown area, I unloaded the ten-foot, 60-pound cross and walked east to this city’s main street. Immediately the car horns started up. Street Evangelist Tom Alexander praying for great revival to break out at TBN and the city of Tustin
Tustin, California. Home to Trinity Broadcasting Network, the largest Christian television ministry in the world. After walking the cross in Santa Ana, I loaded up the large cross on my “go-ye-mobile” and traveled the short distance to the television network. I then visited Pastor Ed Smith at Trinity’s on-site Church.
We sat in those gold colored oversize chairs most people who’ve watched TBN have seen. Brother Ed and I had a great time of prayer for Tustin and the people living in this Orange County city. Crime exists in this city just like any other, and I shared with Brother Ed that I would be walking the cross in this area after we had prayed and fellowshipped for a while. Santa Ana, California. A beautiful city in Orange County, and not far from Disneyland. Many times I had been here, but today I was on official business from the King of the universe, the Lord Jesus Christ. California’s Cross Walker would walk the cross downtown and throughout the city, praying for Great Revival to break out in this city. Although the government agencies were taking a furlong day off to help with the recession, there certainly were many people downtown and hanging out at the government buildings. Street Evangelist Tom Alexander praying at City Hall and for the people of San Fernando
After walking the cross in Santa Clarita I headed south about 15 miles to this beautiful city. Parking the “go-ye-mobile” in First Baptist Church’s parking lot, I unloaded the 10-foot, 60-pound cross, and headed a couple blocks to the large Superior Court House building, hoisted the cross upright and prayed for the people of this medium-size town, that God would send the Spirit of Revival throughout the land. This was around noon and lots of individuals were leaving the Courthouse, including many jurors. Many spoke to me and thanked me for praying for their city and for them. I then cross walked the downtown area, headed for City Hall and the Police Station, to hoist the cross and pray for the men and women working at these government and municipal businesses as well. Monday, April 19th.
Cross Walk Southern California commences with this first Walk The Cross ministry in this large and beautiful Santa Clarita Valley known for its Magic Mountain amusement park. The long walk with the ten foot, 60-pound cross began at McBean Parkway and Valencia Blvd. This is a very heavily used intersection and as many as ten thousand cars passed by as I walked the cross east and then west for several miles. At each major intersection I hoisted the cross and prayed long and hard for the people of these valley cities. I prayed for widespread revival to break out among all the inhabitants.
I then turned my attention to the government part of this large community. Walking to the large City Hall building, I hoisted the cross and prayed for the major and the council members, as well as all city employees, that they all come to Jesus and begin a new life in Christ for the sake of the citizens of this valley community. Tom praying with three young beachgoers at the start of the Venice Beach cross walk
“Cross Walking Safari”
(new life in Christ version)
Early in the morning we’ll be starting out;
You might as well be coming along.
We’re loading up the truck with the cross inside
and heading out singing our song.
chorus
Come on Christian what you waiting for,
I’m gonna take you on a cross-walking safari.
Well, come on Christian, what you waiting for,
I’m gonna take you on a cross-walking safari.
Let’s go walking now, everybody’s learning how.
Come on a cross-walking safari with me.
Come on a safari with me.
As I often share, years ago I gave up the long board for the long cross and began chasing the Endless Easter instead of the Endless Summer. For my own personal pleasure, I have taken several Beach Boy songs and changed the words to fit my new life in Christ. “Surfing Safari” is now “Cross Walking Safari.” And, instead of praying for surf at the beaches, I now pray for revival throughout California’s massive and vastless sea of humanity. Tom and an on-fire for Jesus weight lifter at Muscle Beach
” People On The Beach”
(new life in Christ version)
On the beach you’ll find them there,
In the sun and salty air.
The people on the beach
are all within reach
If you know what to do.
How I love to walk the cross
And talk with those who might be lost.
The people on the beach
are all within reach,
And I know what to do.
Refrain
People on the beach, people on the beach.
Cross on the beach, cross on the beach.
People on the beach, cross on the beach.
As a kid, surfing was my favorite water sport and, of course, the Beach Boys were my favorite group. Then came Jesus, the first water walker. When I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior it was easy to give up the long board for the long cross. That’s what I did. And now, instead of praying for surf, I pray for revival. Instead of chasing The Endless Summer, I’m now on a cross-walking safari I call The Endless Easter. I still enjoy listening to Beach Boys and other surf-theme music, but I’ve also taken the liberty to change some of the lyrics to their songs to fit my new life in Christ lifestyle and cross walk ministry. Thus, “Girls On The Beach” is now “People On The Beach.” Read the rest of this entry »
