Tom hoisting the cross at the end of the very popular and busy Santa Monica pier and praying for citywide revival

“Walk The Cross

(new life in Christ version)

(Walk the cross and you’ll be sitting on top of the world)

Don’t be afraid to try the greatest ministry around.

Everybody should try it once;

Those who don’t just have to put it down.

You walk the cross down a street, pray and praise,

And baby that’s all there is to the cross-walking craze.

(Walk the cross and you’ll be sitting on top of the world)

Not just a fad cause it’s been going on so long,

All the cross-walkers just keep going strong.

They said it wouldn’t last long…

But they’ll eat their words with a fork and spoon,

And watch ’em, they’ll hit the streets and all be walking soon.

And when they walk the cross they’ll be sitting on top of the world.

The Endless Easter! Sure beats The Endless Summer. And since 1973 that’s what I’ve been doing. Forsaking my plans and my schemes, my desires and my dreams, and sharing with everyone that I can that Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life! When I gave my life to Jesus, He gave me forgiveness of my sins and something very special the Bible calls eternal life, and what I call The Endless Easter. Where I once was a hope-to-die surfer and moondoggie (a night surfer) I am now a hodaddy (a nonsurfer), giving up the long board for the long cross. I still enjoy the beach and Beach Boys music. That’s why I take their songs and turn them into cross-walking safari tunes. Thus, “Catch A Wave” is now “Walk The Cross.” Read the rest of this entry »

Cross Walk Hollywood

“Don’t Back Down”
–Beach Boys
(new Life in Christ version)

The skeptics think this preacher is going to wipe out.
But toting the ten foot cross you can hear him shout,
I’m not afraid, oh no, not this boy.
I grit my teeth and don’t back down.

chorus

Oooh, you better watch your talk
‘Cause I’ll show you that I won’t back down,
Won’t back down from this walk.
With the cross on his back and some tracts easy to understand,
The cross walker knows the city like the palm of his hand.
He’s not afraid, and won’t back down, won’t back down
No not this boy.
He grits his teeth and won’t back down.

SOUL-WINNING SAFARI TO HOLLYWOOD

Welcome To Hollywood!

As I often share, for my own personal fun I’ve taken several Beach Boys songs and changed the words to fit my cross-walking ministry and safari. Years ago I gave up the long board for the long cross and the Endless Summer for the Endless Easter. And now instead of praying for surf, I pray for revival. Come and safari with me to Hollywood and look what Jesus the first Water Walker is doing in and throughout Movieland, USA.

Indeed, because my wife and I were here today, Hollywood won’t be the same tomorrow. Read the rest of this entry »

Cross Walk Ventura

Tom praying for Ventura at Surfer's Knoll

On Mother’s Day weekend, 2009 and after a successful cross-walking  safari in Santa Barbara, Jeanette and I drove 25 miles south to Ventura and  parked at the city’s beautiful Ventura Harbor. Directly across from the Harbor is Surfer’s Knoll, a favorite surfing spot for local surfers. We had spent a long time in Santa Barbara and it was fast approaching dusk.

Hoisting up the long cross at the Surfer’s Knoll sign, we prayed for the city of Ventura, that the God of revival would pour out His Spirit upon the city’s 97,000 residents and catch them in the prayer dragnet  we were building with our prayer of faith.

The sight of the long cross hoisted upright at the entrance to Surfer’s Knoll drew a lot of attention from those passing by and from those who were on the beach. Read the rest of this entry »

“I Get Around”
(new life in Christ version)

Round, round, get around, I get around.
I get around, all over town.
I’m a cross-walking fool,
but for the Lord it’s cool.

chorus

I always take my cross
’cause it’s never been beat.
And I’ve never missed yet with the people I meet.
I get around,
all over town.
I’m a cross-walking fool,
but for the Lord it’s cool.

Just for my own personal fun, I’ve taken several Beach Boys tunes and changed the words to fit my cross-walking ministry. Years ago I gave up the long board for the long cross and quit chasing the Endless Summer for the Endless Easter. Instead of praying for surf, I now pray for revival.  Of course, Jesus Christ was the original water walker. It is this first Water Walker whom I now follow and love with all my heart, soul, body and spirit. Nothing compares to following the Son! And nothing comes close to the love and warmth of the Son. Cowabunga and Hallelujah! Read the rest of this entry »

Who Would Gun Down a 62-year-old Woman?

Praying for healing and revival before walking this large corridor in south Bakersfield

“Unexplainable: Who Would Gun  down a  62-year-old Woman?”

So read the front-page headline of The Bakersfield Californian’s April 29th, 2009 newspaper, highlighting the Monday night shooting death of 62-year-old Iva Craig. Her 54- and 44-year-old-friends were also wounded by a hail of twenty some odd bullets.

As I read Wednesday morning’s article concerning this tragedy, I knew I’d be at Iva Craig’s home that very morning, hoisting the large 10-foot cross upright and right next to where she and her two friends were shot, praying long and hard for her family. Read the rest of this entry »

The Cross Of Jesus: God’s Plus Sign To The World

God bless America and America, bless God

The story is told about a group of college “mathletes” who were returning to their residence hall after an evening of intoxicated pleasure. Suddenly, their drunken leader noticed on the steeple of a church a large cross illuminated by the moon. “Ye mathematicians, look at God’s plus sign!” he yelled for all to hear. The group burst into spontaneous laughter.

One of the students from that prestigious group couldn’t sleep that night. Toward morning he stepped into the leader’s room and shared that the luminous vision of the cross as God’s plus sign (the symbol of His love for mankind) had made him decide to uphold that cross. Seven others from that group followed him and gave their lives to the One who had died on the cross, God’s plus sign. Read the rest of this entry »

Run from Guns: Ten Things To Carry Instead Of A Gun

Posted by Tom Alexander on March 20th, 2009

Not Another Drop! Keeping Kids Away From Gun Violence Is One Of Teen Scene’s And Walk The Cross’s Main Goals.

Just like adults, young people “pack,” or carry, guns or other weapons for four primary reasons: PROTECTION, REVENGE, NOTORIETY, or CRIMINALITY. It can be very scary when a bully threatens to harm you. Getting even may seem to be the only way to save face. Carrying a gun to make others respect you might seem sensible to a youth who isn’t popular. Using a gun to commit a crime and obtain what you do not have might seem to be the only solution. But, are these really good reasons to carry a gun or other weapon? Is this what your parents really want you to do?

What about your future? Should jail or prison be part of your legacy? If you carry a gun it will be way to easy to shoot someone who gets you angry or upset. In the heat of the moment, it’s just way to easy to not think out or consider the consequences of using a gun if you are already “packing.”

Here are ten life-building, life-keeping alternative things to carry instead of a gun or other weapon. Read the rest of this entry »

CONVICT FOR CHRIST: Tom Alexander’s Testimony

Posted by Tom Alexander on March 19th, 2009

set free from a chemicalized and criminalized life

Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed out of the hand of the enemy.

(Psalm 107:2).

I am a born-again Christian, a third day believer.  This wasn’t always the case for me. Like the majority of religious and nonreligious people, I had no clue whatsoever that I was completely selfish and self-absorbed, The purpose of my life was to be the purpose of everyone else’s life. I was totally caught up in the “me, myself and I” syndrome.

Then came prison.

At age 22 and as I sat in  a crowded jail cell, I felt no remorse at all that I had gone on a state-to-state rampage, first robbing a bank in my hometown of Texas City, Texas  and escaping by the skin of my teeth, and then robbing people at gunpoint in their homes throughout California cities and towns, until finally being busted in the northern coastal city of Monterey.
